Meera Nigam

Meera Nigam is an exceptionally gifted dancer, who has charmed one and all with her dancing talent, from a tender age. She has achieved numerous awards at youth festivals and other such competitions. Meera, born in Bhuj (Gujarat), with a fervour for dance and the incessant encouragement and support of her parents, started pursuing her training in Bharatanatyam from Padma Bhushan Shri C.V. Chandrashekhar. During her Graduation and Post Graduation in Bharatanatyam at the Faculty of Performing Arts, M.S. University, Vadodara, she secured first class distinction and has a degree of B.A. in Archeology and M.A. in History. Meera has been performing solo since 1987, in the major cities of India, and has performed overseas in countries of South East Asia with her Guru Shri C.V. Chandrashekhar. She has participated in the Festival of India-USSR and many other renowned programmes. She has also given folk dance performances in various places of India. Meera has performed at D.D.K. Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Delhi, Zee T.V. Gujarati, ETv Gujarati, and other such TV programs as well.

Since its establishment, the main aim of Stuti has been to promote young talents and inculcate traditional and cultural upbringing. It also acknowledges and encourages the enthusiasm of middle aged women for dance. The institution has held enormous events and programs. The Arangetram of students, dance dramas, dance sequences, dance lecture demonstrations, workshops, etc have also been conducted by Stuti, and the students have benefited greatly from them.

Meera has been conducting her dance academy ‘Stuti – The Institute of Performing Arts’ since the past 22 years in Rajkot, Gujarat. ‘Stuti’ endeavours to develop skills in young artists, and thrives to train them in the sanctity and the purity of this sacred dance form. Meera’s senior students, Shruthi and Smruthi say that “Meera Nigam has had a reflective role in shaping our Nritta and Nritya in one or the other way and continues to guide us from darkness to light. She is a true believer of tradition and discipline in dance and a very influential person who incorporates these values to all of her students.” 

Meera has choreographed and performed dance sequences for various charitable and social organizations and even for Gujarat State Government organized programmes. She has directed the Arangetram of several students successfully. Students of ‘Stuti’ have performed in numerous cities of India, such as Indore, Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, etc. Students from Israel, Switzerland, the U.S., and other places have trained under ‘Stuti’. Her incredible talent is bestowed upon her daughters Vanshi and Aashi. They have been learning Bharatanatyam from their mother from tender ages. Meera has been awarded with Gaurav Puraskar-2014 by Gujarat Rajya Sangeet Natak Academy. Meera has also been awarded Divya Bhaskar- Woman of The Year (Kutch-Saurashtra) 2012 and the Kutch Gaurav award.
